COOL CULTURE FAIR:
YOUR DAY TO SHINE

Each year our partner museums, botanical gardens and zoos send representatives to network with education professionals that work throughout the five boroughs, and given space to disseminate materials that showcase their unique events, exhibitions and activities for children and families.

After Cool Culture Fair, our Cultural Liaisons--early childhood educators and social service staff--go back to their programs and share these resources with parents, decorate their classrooms, and post materials in their family resource rooms.

Liaisons also host parent workshops so that families have a clear sense of how they can use cultural visits and pre- and post-visit discussions about shapes, lines and textures to build vocabulary and cognitive skills.

Beyond the more than 50,000 families that Cool Culture directly serves, Culture Fair and the work of our educators positively impacts the broader community through word of mouth and extended family relationships.

OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

We've identified our 10th anniversary as the launch year for the Cool Culture Museum Mile Walk as another exciting spotlight to make our cultural institution partners shine among Cool Culture participants. Cool Culture will work with our education and cultural partners to rally Cool Culture families to join us for a fun, family focused, free event, alongside friends of Cool Culture, art connoisseurs and others committed to ensuring the diversity of museum audiences!

This year's Culture Fair was held at the U.S.S. Intrepid Museum on Monday, November 16, 2009 and attended by more than 550 participants. The schedule of events (PDF) included an opportunity for CCultural Liaisons and parents to network with participating cultural institutions,a luncheon honoring the decade-long ommitment of Cool Culture's 90 cultural partners, and panel discussions featuring museum educators, early childhood professionals and arts administrators.
