Cool Culture for Early Childhood Centers

Enrollment for our 2018-2019 program year is now closed.
Enrollment will reopen in June 2019.

Our program for early childhood centers brings together families, educators and New York City’s museums, gardens, and zoos to prepare children for future success and enhance family involvement in their child’s development.

The program is aligned with Early Learn requirements for community partnerships and family engagement, and NYS Pre-K Foundation for the Common Core in social/emotional development, approaches to learning, and literacy.

Enrolled early childhood centers receive:

  • A personalized Cool Culture Family Pass, for all families and staff, which provides free, general admission for up to 5 people at 90 partner museums, gardens and zoos during out-of-school time for one year (not for group or field trips).
  • Resources to support museum-going such as Family Guide booklets and event flyers (in English, Spanish and Chinese), a monthly e-mailed newsletter providing family offerings at museums, and more.
  • Several large-scale Cool Culture family events, at museums across New York City, that cater to families with young children
  • Professional development opportunities held in different museums that are designed for each center’s “Cultural Liaison”.

Who is the "Cultural Liaison"?

Each early childhood center must select a staff member to serve as the “Cultural Liaison,” who plays the lead role in implementing Cool Culture at your site. The staff member should have e-mail access, strong administrative and computer skills and work closely with parents.

The Cool Culture responsibilities include coordinating Cool Culture Family Pass registration and distribution three times a year, completing all orientation workshops and materials in the Fall, orienting families to Cool Culture programs, and motivating and supporting your site’s families to use their Family Passes for arts and culture education.

Accepted centers will receive an invoice in late August along with their acceptance packet. Payment is due September 21, 2018.

Dates for professional development workshops and special family events are TBD. This timeline is subject to change.
